Study explores effect of post-partum clinic on breastfeeding rates
April 29, 2014
Drs. Thierry Lacaze and
Mark Walker
have been awarded $420,000 from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to run a
randomized controlled trial
exploring the benefits of a post-partum clinic and its impact on the rate of exclusive breast feeding among women three months after they give birth. Women who experience post-partum depression after giving birth to a child are less likely to breast feed. The plan is to develop clinics that will help new mothers address their post-partum depression and begin breast feeding their newborn child. To date, close to 200 women have been enrolled in the trial.
