Wearing a smartphone to improve physical rehabilitation
February 12, 2014
Dr. Edward Lemaire
has developed three BlackBerry apps to help clinicians understand how a patient with mobility issues stands and moves in real-world settings, such as getting out of a car or walking up a grassy hill. An article in
itbusiness.ca
recently featured the
TOHRC Biomechanics Augmented Reality
app, which ties together the phone’s video with its sensors that measure angle and position. The two other apps,
TOHRC Video Event Recorder
and
TOHRC Data Logger
, can also help researchers track different aspects of a person’s movement, for later analysis. Plans are in the works to develop these apps for iOS and Android devices.
