$1.4M research grant to enhance safe driving among older people
February 13, 2014
Dr. Shawn Marshall and his colleagues have been awarded $1.4M from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to support their international
Candrive
program.
Initiated in 2002 by Dr. Marshall and Dr. Malcolm Man-Son-Hing, the Candrive team has progressed to a prospective study involving nearly 1,000 older drivers, documenting their driving habits, car accidents and clinical changes over five years. The information will be used to develop an evidence-based tool to determine which older drivers can safely continue to drive, which may need assistance to continue driving and which may need to consider stopping driving.
Candrive has previously received more than $5M from CIHR, and the research has expanded to include Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
