Shared decision making

Shared decision making is a way that decisions are made by the patient and the clinician together using the best available evidence and patient-informed preferences. Patient decision aids, decision coaching, and question prompts are used to prepare patients for making decisions with their clinician.

The Ottawa Hospital's Patient Decision Aids Research Group, which is also affiliated with the University of Ottawa, maintains the world's largest inventory of patient decision aids, along with related tools and resources.
