Brief Biography
Support Dr. Santos' cause: Donate to Radiology Research at The Ottawa Hospital
Dr. Marlise Santos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Ottawa and a cross-appointed physician in the Division of Neurosurgery. She brings a decade of specialized neurosciences education to our community, including six years of formal training in endovascular neurosurgery and an International Master’s Diploma in Neurovascular Diseases (2006).
Dr. Santos is a valued member of the neuroradiology and neurointerventional sections at The Ottawa Hospital. As a neuroscientist, she has served as the principal investigator for several scientific studies endorsed by The Ottawa Hospital and the Brain and Mind Research Institutes. She is a tireless advocate for patient safety and excellence in clinical care and education.
Dr. Santos earned a Master of Public Health and Clinical Epidemiology from Harvard University (2018). She has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Best Radiology Teacher Award from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine Undergraduate Medical Education Program (2012), The Ottawa Hospital’s Patient Safety Star Award (2014), and the Neuroradiology Staff Teacher of the Year Award (2023).
With two decades of professional experience in neuroimaging and endovascular surgery, Dr. Santos provides individualized and compassionate medical care for patients with complex conditions, including acute stroke (brain clot aspiration), aneurysms, fistulas, vascular malformations (catheter embolization, coiling, stenting, flow diversion, etc.), vessel stenosis (stenting, angioplasty), venous angiomas (sclerotherapy), and vascular tumors (catheter embolization), among others.
Dr. Santos' background in clinical neurology, combined with her expertise in diagnostic neuroradiology, ensures comprehensive patient support, including MRI and CT interpretation. Under her care, patients receive expert guidance and compassionate support, with emphasis on patient involvement in every aspect of their medical journey.
