Job Description
The Ottawa Methods Centre (OMC) is part of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and provides expertise and support to health professionals and researchers at all stages of a research project. The OMC has been instrumental in establishing The Ottawa Hospital as one of Canada's leading centers for clinical research. The OMC seeks a full-time Patient-Oriented Research (POR) Clinical Research Assistant II to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team. Reporting to the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) Facilitator, the successful candidate will contribute to the provincial Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR), the Ontario SPOR Support Unit (OSSU), and The Office for Patient Engagement in Research Activities (OPERA). OPERA is a research and clinical collaboration between clinicians, researchers, people with lived experience (PWLE) and others interested in high-quality research, implementation, and dissemination. It is a partnership between the Ottawa Methods Centre (OMC) and The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) Patient and Family Engagement Program (PFEP). OPERA supports patient-oriented research through consultations, training, resources, and additional research to advance the body of knowledge in this area.

This role will fit individuals with an interest in developing and managing projects, including supporting partnerships and relevant procedural supports.

Major Responsibilities:
The primary role of the OMC-SPOR Research Assistant II will be to support patient-oriented research at The Ottawa Hospital. This will include collaboration with The Ottawa Hospital Patient and Family Engagement Program (TOH-PFEP) to facilitate the identification of patient advisors for research studies, maintaining infrastructure and processes within TOH/OHRI to support POR, providing training and education regarding POR, and participating in research to advance POR methods.
•Support TOH-PFEP activities by facilitating partnerships that promote a culture of patient and family-centered research.
•Maintain communication with patient advisors for research by serving as a link between patients (including the TOH-PFEP), OPERA, and OHRI researchers.
•Assist in the execution of TOH-PFEP program evaluations.
•Collaborate with TOH-PFEP to maintain infrastructure to support research partnerships, including a database of projects and engagement supports (including the processing of compensation).
•Contribute to patient engagement planning for research studies at various stages (protocol development, study execution, and dissemination)
•Contribute to training for research personnel.
•Contribute to training for patient partners who will be taking on the role of patient advisors.
•Support research studies to advance POR methods.
•Oversee promotion of OMC-SPOR services (by managing the OPERA website, social media, etc.), including contributions to the TOH-PFEP newsletter
•Participate in OMC-SPOR and OSSU working groups and advisory committees as requested.

Other:
•Attend required meetings designated by the OMC, including service area staff meetings, relevant OHRI research rounds and seminars, or any other meetings where staff attendance is required.
•Attend scientific conferences/external meetings as required.
•Develop training materials, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
•Draft and contribute to manuscripts for peer-review publications.
•Other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):
•Minimum of 2 years of experience in a health research environment and a secondary diploma
•Knowledge or experience with the clinical or applied research process, including dissemination, and implementation.
•Knowledge or experience working with patients, the public, or communities.
•Experience with project management or coordination.
•Experience planning and delivering research training.
•Superior interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
•Undergraduate degree or master’s degree in a relevant discipline
•3+ years of relevant experience in health sciences research or related field (social or behavioral sciences, education etc.).
•Some experience with the engagement of people with lived experience (PWLE) in research.
•Familiarity with clinical trials and research methods (e.g., interviews, surveys, literature reviews)

Contract Details:
This is a 2-year full-time contract with full benefits, pension, and the possibility of renewal.
Salary: Min: $ 26.477 - Max: $31.155
