The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) and the Department of Ophthalmology at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) invite applications for the Don and Joy Maclaren Chair in Vision Research. The Chair is to support a Scientist in the field of vision research within the Neuroscience Program of the OHRI.
We are searching for an outstanding scientist to establish and build a competitive research program in translational ocular research. All areas of vision research, including model systems, mechanisms of disease, and small molecule and gene therapies are welcome. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and multidisciplinary group of basic and clinical researchers, and benefit from access to research and core facilities through the OHRI, the Department of Ophthalmology and the University of Ottawa.
The successful candidate will be appointed as a Scientist in the Neuroscience Program at OHRI and at the appropriate level in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for an appointment to a graduate department within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
Required qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent (MD, MD/MSc, MD/PhD) and have completed postdoctoral research training demonstrating outstanding achievement in their field. Expertise in gene therapy, and bench-to-bedside translational research will be considered an asset.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will develop an independent, competitive and collaborative research program that is externally funded. Teaching at the graduate level is expected, as is the recruitment and mentoring of trainees.
