Research reveals best approaches to evaluate bleeding in the brain

February 23, 2011

New research led by Dr. Dar Dowlatshahi has solved an important debate about how CT scanning can be used to evaluate bleeding in the brain and guide treatment decisions. Dr. Dowlatshahi and his colleagues tested several commonly-used mathematical approaches for measuring bleeding in the brain over time, and determined which equations and cutoff values were most useful. The results, published in the journal Neurology, have already been incorporated into the design of several multi-centre clinical trials of new treatments for brain bleeding (intracerebral hemorrhage).
