$4.4M grant to advance pregnancy and stem cell research

April 2, 2014

Dr. William Stanford is playing a key role in a new Canada–Japan collaboration aimed at improving our understanding of embryo and stem cell development, and preventing pregnancy complications. The project was awarded $4.4M from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research ($2M) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency ($2.4M). Six laboratories are involved, including one led by Dr. Stanford in Ottawa, two led out of Toronto and three from Japan. The group will use a coordinated strategy to decipher how the earliest phases of placental development are epigenetically controlled. Further details can be found in CIHR’s Funding Decision Database.
