Government of Ontario invests more than $1 million in multi-year COPD research
May 19, 2014
Dr.
Shawn Aaron
is co-lead on a research project into chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that has been awarded $1.1 million over three years by the
Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
. Together with Dr. Andrea Gershon, Dr. Aaron will create the Ontario Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Population Health Network in order to identify areas of improvement in both the quality and safety of care provided to people with COPD. The hope is to improve the health of people living with COPD and create a more efficient system of care for them. COPD affects 12.5% of Canadians aged 35-79, according to the 2011 Canadian Health Measures Survey, and is a leading cause of hospitalization for people in Ontario.
