$8.4M in operating grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)

Ottawa Hospital Research Institute scientists were awarded 11 operating grants worth $8.4 million in the most recent CIHR competition. The successful principal investigators and co-principal investigators affiliated with OHRI include Drs. Gonzalo Alvarez (preventing Tuberculosis in Inuit communities), Jay Baltz (understanding how a specific process (methylation) is critical for the health of the fetus, placenta and offspring), Curtis Cooper (Canadian HIV Observational Cohort Collaborative Research Centre), Jeffrey Dilworth (muscle regeneration), Ian Lorimer (brain cancer [glioblastoma] therapy), Doug Manuel (predictors of admission to long-term care facilities), Robin Parks and Rashmi Kothary (novel therapeutics for Spinal Muscular Atrophy), Dawn Stacey (shared decision-making in interprofessional home-care teams), Janet Squires (understanding the role of context in knowledge translation), Alan Tinmouth and Dean Fergusson (trial of plasma transfusion before invasive procedures), and Barbara Vanderhyden (role of stem-like cells in ovulatory wound repair).
