Promising intermediate results in CIHR’s Foundation grant competition

Eight scientists from the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute have moved on to the third and final phase of the Foundation grant competition from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), representing a success rate of 26% (over the first two phases) compared to the national average of 14%. The scientists still in the running include Drs. Shawn Aaron (lung disease), Jeff Dilworth (muscle regeneration), Ian Graham (knowledge translation), Jeremy Grimshaw (implementation of evidence-based care), Greg Knoll (kidney transplantation), Duncan Stewart (blood vessel regeneration), Ian Stiell (emergency medicine) and Bernard Thébaud (lung regeneration). Foundation grants are meant to provide long term (five to seven year) support for Canada’s top health researchers. Final results are expected this summer.
