Ottawa researchers answer patient questions about stroke and stem cells

February 10, 2016

Drs. Duncan Stewart, Dar Dowlatshahi and Dale Corbett help answer patient questions about stroke and stem cells in a new video from the Heart and Stroke Foundation Canadian Partnership for Stroke Recovery. The video describes the need for further research in Canada and raises concerns about stem cell trials in some parts of the world. The HSF Canadian Partnership for Stroke Recovery, which is headquartered at uOttawa, includes The Ottawa Hospital, uOttawa and six other academic research partners. While no applications have been made to launch a stem cell trial for stroke recovery and funding has not been secured, the Partnership has held preliminary discussions on how a trial would be structured in Canada. Researchers from Ottawa are poised to play an important role in this. The next step is for the Partnership to secure the necessary funding.
