Dr. Venkatesh Thiruganasambandamoorthy and patient “The patients I see in the emergency department deserve the best care based on the latest evidence. They inspire my research on common conditions like fainting and chest pain.” -Dr. Venkatesh Thiruganasambandamoorthy, emergency physician and scientist at The Ottawa Hospital and associate professor at the University of Ottawa.Dr. Venkatesh Thiruganasambandamoorthy has received a major honour recognizing his outstanding contributions to advancing care in the emergency department both in Canada and around the world. A world leader in fainting research, his contributions include the Canadian Syncope Risk Score, which predicts which patients are at risk of adverse effects after fainting. The score has been validated and adopted by several countries. He has also developed guidelines for how long to monitor the heart rhythm of patients who have fainted. These contributions serve to improve both patient care and efficiency in the emergency department. In addition, Dr. Thiruganasambandamoorthy has mentored 37 students and authored 71 scientific articles.
