Research Activities
I am involved in neonatal clinical trials, a with particular interest in the lung (non-invasive ventilation, surfactant). I was a co-principal investigator in a large (1009 babies born <1000g) international multi-center randomized controlled trial comparing 2 modalities of non-invasive ventilation. II am currently the principal investigator in a multi-center randomized controlled trial comparing our standard surfactant to a newer surfactant, not yet in use in Canada. Over the last 10 years, I have also been the author of several systematic reviews and in writing guidelines on best practices for neonatal pain management. Over the last 2 years, I have been involved in a multi-disciplinary group looking at counselling of parents facing the imminent birth of an extremely premature infant. We are trying to improve how we involve parents in shared-decision making, so they make better decision for their infant and family.
