Q: Why do you volunteer on the Board of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute?
A: The Ottawa Hospital is a world-class institution and its research activities play a significant role in this recognition. I am proud to serve on the board of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute as it draws exceptional researchers and enables ground breaking research and clinical trials that benefit all patients, whether they live in Ottawa--or anywhere else. The fact that the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute is a top recipient of grants from Canada’s highly competitive national granting agency is further testament to the quality of the work of its researchers. It is obvious to me that the leadership and all those involved are truly passionate and committed to driving their accomplishments even further and this makes it very exciting to be involved.
While researchers at The Ottawa Hospital work in a number of areas, the advancements in stroke research are of personal interest to me, having had my father, mother and brother-in-law affected by this debilitating disease, at relatively young ages. I know that the research community of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute will contribute important new knowledge to care and treatment in this area.
