OHRI Institutional Research Data Management Strategy
Research Data Management (RDM) refers to the processes applied through the lifecycle of a research project to
guide the collection, documentation, storage, sharing, and preservation of research data (GoC, 2021).
Excellent RDM practices support research visibility, facilitate new collaborations, empower verification of
research results, and build a culture of reproducible research. In early 2021, Canada’s research funding
agencies (SSHRC, NSERC, and CIHR) launched the Tri-Agency Research
Data Management (RDM) Policy. In response to the Tri-Agency requirements, OHRI has developed a
strategy to support all OHRI researchers while respecting discipline-specific needs. A copy of the strategy
can be found here:
Highlights of the objectives from OHRI’s RDM Strategy include:
- Developing institutional policies regarding RDM practices
- Facilitating access to RDM-specific training programs around best practices in research data management
for OHRI researchers
- Creating a data governance framework considering the needs of all three Indigenous Peoples groups
defined in Canada's constitution (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis)
- Exploring data repositories to support OHRI researchers with depositing and publishing Open Access data
OHRI researchers can find guidance for preparing Data Management Plans and other RDM resources as they become
available in IRIS Guide. OHRI researchers requiring RDM support will receive assistance through a
collaboration between the OHRI Business Systems Integration Team (BSIT) and the Ottawa Methods Centre (OMC).
Please fill out an Ottawa Methods
Centre Service Request if you require assistance.
