Why Store With Us?
Potential Research Projects
There are many research projects that may require cryopreservation of biological material. The use of biorepositories in research is necessary for both short-term and long-term storage of critical biological materials for a wide variety of research projects such as:
- Biobanking projects collecting tissues or biological fluids and clinical data from specific patient populations which can be used to create an annotated collection of biospecimens.
- These research studies can then be made available to researchers to study molecular mechanisms of diseases, identify molecular targets for treatment, identify molecular signatures of a disease, design diagnostic tools, etc.
- Epidemiological and Population Health studies
- Basic science projects
- Long-term storage of samples/retains for clinical trials
Why Choose Liquid Nitrogen Storage?
Cryopreservation using Liquid Nitrogen freezers is the recommended standard for preservation of human biological samples for wide range of research applications. The vapour-phase LN2 freezers ensure a stable storage temperature of -185°C, with a temperature gradient variation of only 4°C.The vapour-phase LN2 freezers will maintain samples below -132°C (the critical glass-transition temperature) for several weeks without the need to refill the LN2. The storage of cells at temperatures below -132°C is critical for an unaltered material preservation, as it is the temperature at which all biological activity ceases.
In comparison, the mechanical devices such as -80°C freezer can fluctuate drastically where samples stored close to the top and bottom of a freezer can maintain the colder temperatures, but racks and samples towards the center of the freezer can be warmer by at least 15°C. Additionally, the -80°C freezers generate heat and are vulnerable to the electricity supply disruptions and frequent freezer failures.
Our state-of-the-art vapour-phase LN2 freezers store biospecimens in racks that sit atop a platform separating the samples from the liquid nitrogen. This design greatly limits the risk of contamination commonly associated with liquid nitrogen. Our high-end LN2 freezers are also equipped with a monitoring system that ensures the level of LN2 beneath the platform is constantly maintained within the accepted range to minimize temperature variations inside the freezer.
The storage of specimens at ultra-low temperatures, in particular vapour-phase LN2, is particularly suitable in the field of proteomics or storage of primary cell cultures.
Our goal is to provide researchers with the peace of mind that their samples are safe and well-tended.
