This award recognizes local innovators who inspire others to find creative solutions to waste reduction. Carole has been instrumental in making OHRI greener by chairing OHRI's Green Committee and creating the Green Guide. As former head of the Cancer Research Program's Green Team, Carole helped to pioneer many innovative changes, such as switching from small cell culture bottles to large bags, which reduced waste by over 600 pounds and saved more than $20,000 a year.

Carole has this to say on her win: "This was a huge surprise! It's wonderful when your peers recognize your efforts, and I hope we're encouraging and inspiring others to be greener every day. But really, our success is because everyone participates. I may have spearheaded the initiatives, but it's the students and staff who make it all possible."
