Cathy Sun

Dr. Cathy J. Sun is an Endocrinologist at The Ottawa Hospital, Associate Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa.

She graduated from medical school, endocrinology residency, and Master of Science at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Sun then completed two clinical research fellowships: in lipidology at The Ottawa Hospital, and in diabetes mellitus at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute.

Dr. Sun’s clinical expertise and research integrate pathophysiology into advancing the understanding of diabetes heterogeneity to personalize treatment for people living with diabetes. Furthermore, she is committed to improving the quality of care for people living with diabetes when they are admitted to the hospital. Dr. Sun is also passionate about knowledge mobilization, and developing innovative methods to increase access to comprehensive diabetes care.

Dr. Sun received the 2025 The Ottawa Hospital Department of Medicine Excellence in Healthcare Quality Award.
