Dr. Cristina Negrean is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa and a Clinical Investigator at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. She obtained her medical degree and specialist certification from University of Montreal. Subsequently, Dr. Negrean completed a fellowship training and obtained a Masters Degree in Epidemiology at University of Ottawa. Currently, she is part of the Division of Urology at The Ottawa Hospital as a functional and reconstructive urologist.
Research Goals and Interests
Dr. Negrean is a urologist with clinical and research interest in neuro-urology and male urinary incontinence. Her research integrates clinical expertise and quantitative methods to develop and validate prediction models for urinary outcomes following prostate cancer treatments. Her work aims to improve personalized care, to facilitate decision-making and reduce decisional regret. Her other major interests are in systematic review and knowledge translation and implementation research, with a focus on translating evidence into clinical practice and improving patient outcomes.
Current Activities:
Dr. Negrean is currently involved in synthesizing the evidence evaluating the association between pre-treatment membranous urethral length on MRI and genitourinary function following radiotherapy in patients with prostate cancer.
Previous Accomplishments:
Dr. Negrean has been involved in research investigating the association between pre-prostatectomy membranous urethral length on MRI and post-surgery urinary incontinence in prostate cancer patients. The evidence suggested, with moderate degree of confidence, that a longer membranous urethral length was predictive of urinary continence. These finings have contributed to provide more personalized pre-operative counselling for patients undergoing radical prostatectomy at The Ottawa Hospital.
