Improving Access and Care Through Implementation Science for Canadian Veterans and CAF Members

About the Program

IMPACT-CVM is a program of research focused on improving how evidence-based practices are delivered across healthcare and service settings for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and Veterans. Our aim is to strengthen how these practices are implemented in routine care and services so they are consistent, equitable, and responsive to the needs and experiences of those who serve or have served in the military, while also improving access to appropriate care and supports.

Our work focuses on supporting the uptake, integration, and sustained use of evidence-based practices in real-world settings, as well as identifying opportunities to de-implement practices that no longer provide value.

A central feature of IMPACT-CVM is its emphasis on sustainment and re-implementation. We work alongside those delivering and receiving care and services to understand what supports the continued use of evidence-based practices, and how to strengthen or reintroduce them when implementation efforts fall short.

Equity is central to our work. We examine how factors such as gender, Indigeneity, race, language, geography, and service history shape access to care and services, experiences of support, and the implementation of evidence-based practices in real-world settings.
All work is co-developed with CAF members and Veterans to ensure relevance to real-world needs and priorities.

Our Work

This work is reflected in projects across Canadian Armed Forces and Veteran health systems.

Across these projects, we work closely with Veterans, clinicians, administrators, and system partners to strengthen how evidence-based practices are implemented and sustained in routine care, with a focus on real-world feasibility and equity.

Focuses on identifying and prioritising implementation strategies to support the re-implementation and sustained use of measurement-based care in CAF mental health services.
