Bio

Louis Goudreau received a bachelor degree in electronic and telecommunication engineering from the University of Sherbrooke and has over 35 years experience in rehabilitation engineering. Following work in industry, Mr. Goudreau pursued his career in the medical field at the Atomic Energy of Canada, where he developed cancer treatment equipment. Subsequently, he moved to The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Center as a computer engineer, where he developed an EMG data acquisition and Gait Analysis system. Presently, as a Clinical Engineer, Louis Goudreau is responsible for electrical and mechanical engineering design or adaptation of medical devices for patients, health care providers, and research.

Research Goals and Interests

Louis Goudreau collaborates with researchers and clinicians inside and outside the Ottawa region by providing professional engineering services related to medical and rehabilitation technology. Research and development projects include a non-comparative shoulder subluxation quantifying method, electronic arthrometer for quantifying joint contracture, translating and rotating platform for balance assessment, specialized EMG amplifiers, driving simulator reaction timer, portable stuttering trainer, communication system interfaces, hydraulic knee orthosis and other prosthetic devices, tactometer for skin sensitivity research, breath counter for compliance study, a novel step height adjustable staircase for therapy, and other health related and safety equipment.
