Researchers at The Ottawa Hospital awarded 17 CIHR grants worth $7.5 million
Researchers at The Ottawa Hospital are playing a lead role in 17 new projects funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
These projects will advance science and improve health in areas such as blood cancer, blood clots, palliative care, pregnancy, hypertension, prehabilitation, stem cells, Parkinson's, spinal muscular atrophy, stroke, cannabis and fainting.
"Research projects such as these will help us provide the best care possible for our patients and community, while advancing science and improving health on a global scale," said Dr. Duncan Stewart, Executive Vice-President of Research at The Ottawa Hospital and professor at the University of Ottawa.
The Ottawa Hospital's success rate in this competition was 23 percent compared to a national average of 19 percent. Over the last three years The Ottawa Hospital held an average rank of #3 among hospitals for CIHR funding.
