Bio
Dr. Vimoj J. Nair is an Associate Professor in the Division of Radiation Oncology at the University of Ottawa and a Clinician Investigator in the Cancer Research Program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI). He also holds consulting privileges at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
Dr. Nair completed his radiation oncology residency in India, followed by a neuro-oncology fellowship at Tata Memorial Hospital, Asia’s largest cancer center. He then pursued a two-year fellowship in CyberKnife and Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy at the University of Ottawa. In 2009, he was awarded the American Brachytherapy Society Fellowship Award for advanced training in San Antonio, Texas. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in the specialty of Radiation Oncology.
In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Nair holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Trials from the University of London, UK. He also holds a Diploma in Computer Applications and a Professional Diploma in Clinical Research (PDCR).
Following his fellowship, Dr. Nair served as a staff radiation oncologist at the Prince Edward Island Cancer Treatment Centre and as an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University in Halifax for three years.
Dr. Nair is passionate about clinical innovation and the integration of advanced technologies in radiation oncology. He is an early adopter of virtual reality applications in radiotherapy and actively engages in both clinical and translational cancer research. He holds multiple peer-reviewed grants and contributes to national and international cancer treatment guideline development. He is also a member of several prominent oncology societies.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Nair is actively involved in resident training and global outreach. He frequently teaches in radiation oncology and neurosurgery education programs and was honored with the Radiation Oncology Resident Teaching Award in 2017.
He serves as Chief Editor for the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology (CARO) – Cureus Journal Academic Channel and sits on the editorial board of Applied Radiation Oncology. He is also a member of the Ontario Cancer Research Ethics Board (OCREB) and the Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) Brain Disease Site Committee.
Outside of work, Dr. Nair enjoys spending quality time with his family—often hiking or traveling together. When not reading a book or exploring new skills, he dedicates time to community service and outreach.
