INSPIRE Interprofessional Research

INSPIRE Interprofessional Research

Established in 2025, the INSPIRE Interprofessional Research Community of Practice is dedicated to supporting nursing and interprofessional research at The Ottawa Hospital and Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.

Overview

The INSPIRE Interprofessional Research Community of Practice brings together nurses and allied health professionals to strengthen research capacity and advance research that improves patient care, health outcomes, and healthcare delivery.

Through mentorship, training, and collaborative networking opportunities, INSPIRE supports clinicians and healthcare professionals at all stages of their research journey. The community fosters interprofessional collaboration and provides access to research resources that enable clinicians to develop, lead, and participate in quality improvement and research initiatives across the organization.

Purpose

The purpose of this Community of Practice is to foster a culture and infrastructure at TOH that recognizes and supports interprofessional research as a core element of clinical care excellence—driven by active engagement, meaningful collaboration, and impactful contributions that advance practice, improve outcomes, and shape innovation.

Vision

To advance collaborative, high-quality research that supports excellence in patient care by engaging nurses, health professionals, patients, and families. Strengthening scholarship and mentorship as well as fostering an environment where research is accessible, supported by leadership, and embedded in everyday practice.

About Interprofessional Research

Interprofessional research plays an important role in addressing complex healthcare challenges and improving patient care. Bringing together nurses, interprofessional healthcare professionals, physicians, and scientists, this interdisciplinary evidence-based initiative is aimed at improving clinical practice, patient outcomes, and health system performance. These projects help generate evidence to guide practice, enhance patient experiences, promote new disciplinary knowledge and support the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered care across clinical settings.

Our History

INSPIRE was established in 2025 to strengthen nursing and interprofessional research at The Ottawa Hospital and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. The community of practice was created to support clinicians and healthcare professionals in developing research skills, fostering collaboration, and advancing evidence-informed care.

Since its launch, INSPIRE has grown into a collaborative platform that connects nurses and allied health professionals with mentorship, training opportunities, and research resources. By bringing together clinicians across disciplines, INSPIRE helps build research capacity and supports the development of innovative quality improvement and research initiatives aimed at improving patient care and health system performance.

Funding

Interprofessional research at The Ottawa Hospital and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute is supported by funds provided by the Ottawa Hospital, which aims to strengthen research capacity among nurses and interprofessional healthcare providers. A key funding opportunity is the ELEVATE Interprofessional Research Grants Stream, which supports clinician-led research and quality improvement projects aimed at improving patient care, health outcomes, and health system performance.
