Job description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant with strong interpersonal and communication skills to support a 1-year research project examining the landscape and impact of virtual care among patients with cancer receiving active treatment. This work integrates patient-reported data with clinical information from the electronic medical record and population-level datasets. The role would be a part-time position two days per week. Approximately 50% of the role will involve patient-facing responsibilities, including screening patients for eligibility to participate in a survey exploring patient perspectives on compassionate use of virtual care. Responsibilities will include initiating telephone contact with potential participants to introduce the study and assess interest in participation, obtaining verbal informed consent, and supporting survey completion. The Research Assistant will also contribute to data collection through chart abstraction, maintenance of the study database and data collection tools, and ensuring data quality and completeness throughout the study. The remaining time will be dedicated to research coordination and administrative tasks, including coordinating study logistics and scheduling, preparing and submitting research ethics applications, and maintaining research documentation and annual reports.
This position is ideal for candidates interested in clinical research, oncology, health services research, or patient-centered care, and offers hands-on experience in both patient engagement and research operations.
Basic Requirements
- Secondary diploma
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a health research environment
- Has completed Tri-Council Policy Statement-2 (TCPS-2) certification
- Possesses strong organizational, time management, and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to engage with patients in a compassionate and empathetic manner
- Maintains professionalism and safeguards confidentiality of personal health information
- Is proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with patients or in a human-centered role (e.g., healthcare, customer service, community engagement)
- Experience with research processes, including Research Ethics Board (REB) submissions
- Experience with survey platforms (e.g., LimeSurvey, REDCap)
- Experience working in electronic medical records (EMRs) and/or performing chart abstraction
- Experience with data entry, database management, or data quality assurance
- Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset

Salary
Min: $26.423/hr - Max: $35.230/hr
