Job description
Dr. Smita Pakhale and her team are involved in clinical research to improve quality of life, focusing on health equity. There are multiple CIHR and PHAC funded projects on tobacco dependence, anti-racism, COVID-19 and the social determinants of health, asthma, sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, COPD and other tobacco related diseases.This research/operations post is linked to our community research center located in Vanier, Ottawa where we conduct Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) in true partnership with people who self-identify as unhoused, insecurely housed, low income, racialized including Indigenous people.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Collaborations with multi-disciplinary scientists, community members, peer researchers from the community, allied healthcare disciplines, and collaborations with study site teams from across Canada.
- Providing basic healthcare and psychological support on physical and mental health issues, and dispensing NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) and other study related medications when indicated
- Referring to other resources as needed to ensure safe, competent, and integrated care of the study participants
- Participating in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the treatment and/or management of chronic diseases, education, counseling and health promotion programs and services
- Conducting culturally appropriate health promotion activities on relevant topics
- Record keeping according to practice and research standards
- Responsible for resource allocation and management/supervision for multi-site projects
- Promoting relevant health promotion and training opportunities for peers, participants and staff
Basic Requirements
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BScN).
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- 7-10 years’ experience working in a clinical environment which includes management/leadership experience.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to balance conflicting demands and multiple priorities.
- 2-3+ years’ experience working with marginalized communities, such as people who use drugs, are unhoused or insecurely housed, racialized including Indigenous peoples.
- Skilled leader, able to engage and inspire staff toward achieving a common vision.
- Ability to lead with focus, including strong planning, prioritizing, and project management skills.
- Experience with human resource management.
- Ability to build connections and sustain trusting relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor, coach, and engage in the professional development of others.
- Ability to successfully lead staff through change.
- Strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent communication and organizational skills.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading and writing.
- Ability to work independently and within a diverse team environment.
- Knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the complexity of issues arising for individuals who have experienced homelessness, substance use disorders, poverty, racism, discrimination and/or mental illness.
- Excellent counseling skills and excellent physical assessment skills.
- Strong crisis intervention skills, suicide intervention skills, organizational skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility, sound judgment, initiative & creativity.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications (Word, Excel, NVivo, R).
- Respects and values the diversity of communities and individuals
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program.
- Significant experience in the areas of Nicotine Replacement Therapy, substance use health, and harm reduction.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding NP scope of practice.
- Bilingual (English/French)
Contract Details
This is a full-time contract.
Salary
Min: $53.146hr. - Max: $70.861/hr
