Job description
The Canadian Biobank Alliance (CBA) is an emerging national biobank system, originating from a biobank effort started in the former CIHR-funded Coronavirus Variants Rapid Response Network (CoVaRR-Net) that acted during the recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Now a disease-agnostic biobank system, the CBA requires a skilled individual (MSc or PhD) to be its Project Manager (PM). The PM is responsible for managing Biobank activities which include relationship building with researchers and biobanks across the Canadian research community. The PM will manage biobank certification, interface with the CBA Director and the Director of the CBA Data Platform, quality assurance and leadership in biobanking. The PM develops organizational strategies for the CBA with a particular focus on aligning activities to meet long term strategic plans for a national biobank system. The PM works with organizations and individuals both nationally and internationally via the growing linkages to basic and clinical researchers and biobankers across Canada and internationally. Assist the CBA in carrying out its mandate to quickly and effectively share resources, and relay, in real-time, data, information and recommendations to inform Canadian public health stakeholders to formulate an action plan to benefit the health of the public. The PM reports to and takes overall work direction (task priorities) from the CBA Director (Dr. AM Crawley). Applicant must be willing to locate to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to perform this work in-person as the CBA is headquartered in Ottawa at the OHRI
Specific elements of the job include:
Leading the implementation of CBA activities; Expanding the CBA capacity nationally; project management; accounting; communications; evaluation and reporting; CBA certifications; technical understanding of CBA activities.

Basic Requirements
- Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or Biobanking Sciences
- 3 – 5 years of Project Management Experience
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in basic science/translational research, biobanking, or clinical projects involving banking
- Experience in project management and a combination of education or experience in one or more of the following areas – basic science/translational research, biobanking, and/or clinical projects involving biobanking
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent business and financial acumen
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion
- Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
Contract Details
This is a 1-year full-time temporary contract
Salary
Min: $90,117 - Max: $120,157 per annum.
