Translational Research Grants advance innovations in blood clotting, cancer and surgery

OHRI continues to partner with the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine and its departments to fund Translational Research Grants. These awards provide critical seed funding to strengthen partnerships between laboratory and clinical researchers, helping to translate scientific discoveries into practical health-care solutions. Three grants worth a total of $150,000 were recently awarded to support translational research related to blood clotting, cancer and surgery. 

Project details

• Defining clinically actionable pharmacodynamic anticoagulation targets using thrombin generation: An in vitro cross-sectional study (CODEBREAKER)
  • Principal Investigators: Dylan Burger (CMM/OHRI) and Joseph Shaw (Medicine/OHRI)
• Clones, Clots and Cancer: Precision cancer prevention after venous thromboembolism by early detection of clonal hematopoiesis
  • Principal Investigators: David Cook (CMM/OHRI) and Dr. Yan Xu (Medicine/OHRI)
• Engineering TGFβ-resistant NK cells to prevent postoperative immunosuppression and metastases
  • Principal Investigators: Seung-Hwan Lee (BMI) and Rebecca Auer (Surgery/OHRI)

Collectively, these projects are generating the knowledge, technologies and partnerships that will help shape the future of health and healthcare.
