Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (aSAH) is a brain bleed resulting from a burst artery. It is an unpredictable neurological injury that changes the course of people’s lives; aSAH is associated with a high degree of mortality and most survivors are left with long-term morbidity. 

Currently, there is little consistency in the outcomes (i.e., specific aspects of injury or recovery) measured and reported in aSAH research. Hundreds of different outcomes are used. Some are not specific to aSAH; some have limited evidence supporting their use; and many were selected without input from those directly affected by aSAH. This makes it makes it challenging to compare or combine findings across studies, represents an inefficient use of limited research resources, and limits our ability to determine which treatments, services, and supports are most important and effective. We aim to address these issues by developing a Core Outcome Set for aSAH. That is, an agreed minimum set of outcomes that should be measured and reported in all future aSAH research.
