Bio
Dr. Grimes received his Doctorate in Medicine and completed his residency in Neurology at the University of Ottawa. He spent two years at the Toronto Hospital and the Centre for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases as a research fellow in movement disorders and molecular genetics. He joined the Department of Medicine in Ottawa in 1999 and is the Director of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Clinic at The Ottawa Hospital. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. His major clinical interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of movement disorders with an emphasis on Parkinson’s disease and dystonia. H is recognized as a national expert in movement disorders having been the project leader and editor of the Canadian Guidelines on Parkinson’s Disease that were published in 2012 and it's update published in 2019 in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. He has received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his work in Parkinson’s disease being nominated by Parkinson Canada. In 2017, he received The Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Ottawa to in recognize his significant contributions and achievement in the advancement of health outcomes and patient care.
