Postdoctoral Fellows
Yi Wu
Yi is a postdoctoral fellow in the Wang lab. Her research interests lie heavily in pericyte neural reprogramming and developing a new approach to enhance post-stroke regeneration/recovery.

PhD Candidates
Marrium Khan
Marrium is a PhD student in the Wang Lab mapping neurogenic niches in the ventricular–subventricular zone using anterograde and retrograde viral tracing. She is investigating neural stem and progenitor populations to distinguish neurogenic and oligogenic activity within the niche, with the goal of informing future neural repair strategies. Outside the lab, she enjoys oil painting, basketball, squash, and discovering new cafés.

Devansh Saraf
Devansh is a PhD candidate who is currently exploring regenerative therapies for ischemic stroke using iPSC-derived neural stem cells and endothelial progenitors. His research specifically focuses on investigating how these two stem cell types can be used for neurovascular regeneration in the post-ischemic brain and enhancing functional recovery. Outside the lab, Devansh enjoys painting, biking, reading, and watching thrillers.

William (Billy) Johnston
Billy is a PhD candidate modelling neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration in vivo and in vitro. Specifically, he is exploring the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neuronal regulation of neural stem cells. Billy is an avid book collector who loves reading Agatha Christie’s novels and the works of Dr. Oliver Sacks.

Edward Sun
Edward is a PhD student who is interested in how neuronal signaling affects adult subventricular zone neurogenesis. He hopes to use his findings to better inform therapeutics for neurodegenerative disease. Outside the lab, he enjoys climbing, badminton, singing karaoke, and running it down on the rift.

Brandon Herron
Brandon is a PhD student in the Wang Laboratory, where he develops biomaterial-guided local drug delivery system to release metformin locally at the stroke lesion site for post-stroke neural regeneration and functional recovery by targeting pericyte-derived neurogenesis and simultaneously ameliorating hostile stroke microenvironment. When he is not engaged in research, Brandon enjoys spending his time watching movies, playing games, and trying different restaurants.

Master's Candidates
Catherine Waghorn
Catherine pursued a BSc in Biomedical Science at the University of Ottawa before switching to Translational and Molecular Medicine as she developed a passion for medical research. This led her to pursuing graduate studies in the Wang and Chan Labs to explore her interest in neural stem cell systems and how they can be disrupted.
She is a big nature lover who enjoys exploring the various hiking trails of Ottawa. She is also a big music buff and loves learning new songs on the guitar.
Catherine’s project investigates the underlying mechanisms behind abnormal human cortical development resulting from prenatal methylmercury (MeHg) exposure, as well as its potential rescue.

Honor's Students
Ammi Paul
For my Honours Thesis, I am working on pericyte reprogramming in an ischemic stroke model. Outside of the lab, I enjoy participating in the Improv Club at uOttawa, dancing, and watching sitcoms!
