Dr. Daniel Myran is a Public Health and Preventative Medicine physician, a Family Physician, and health services researcher. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa and holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Social Accountability. In the community, he practices family medicine with an interest in addiction medicine.

His research focuses on using natural experiments combined with linked health administrative data held at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) to better understand the impacts of public policy on healthcare visits and outcomes. Additionally, he generates evidence to improve mental health and burnout in the physician workforce and access to comprehensive care.

  • Public Health

My streams of research are grounded in social accountability and a key focus is working collaboratively with impacted communities, health care providers, and policy makers, to ensure that the areas of inquiry and evidence generated are reflective of the need and priorities of Canadians. I have two overarching areas of inquiry:

  1. To generate evidence on the health impacts of substance use including changes over time and inequities in harm
  2. To improve access to comprehensive primary care
