“The Portal is one part of the puzzle in improving access to pain care in Canada,” said Dr. Poulin. “We have started to see clinics use the Portal to support clients before and after appointments, or to augment care.”Dr. Patricia Poulin, working with colleagues and patient partners across the country, has launched a first-in-Canada virtual chronic pain management portal.
Funded by Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program, the Power Over Pain portal offers free evidence-based resources to help youth and adults manage their chronic pain.
The Portal has many resources from self-directed courses to one-on-one counseling, with the goal of providing flexible and rapid access to pain management tools.
“The Portal is one part of the puzzle in improving access to pain care in Canada,” said Dr. Poulin. “We have started to see clinics use the Portal to support clients before and after appointments, or to augment care.”
In a pilot study at TOH, 84% of patients who completed the Portal Orientation planned, at 1-month follow-up, to continue to use the Portal to support their chronic pain management. See media release for details.
