Brief Biography

Dr. Marlise Santos holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Ottawa, and she serves as a cross-appointed physician in the Division of Neurosurgery. She offers our community a decade of specialized neurosciences education, including six years of formal training in endovascular neurosurgery and an International Masters Diploma in Neurovascular Diseases (2006).

Dr. Santos is a valued physician member of the neuroradiology and neuro-interventional sections at The Ottawa Hospital. She has been the principal investigator for several studies endorsed by The Ottawa Hospital and the Brain and Mind Research Institutes. She advocates tirelessly for patient safety and excellence in clinical care and education.

Dr. Santos received a Master of Public Health and Clinical Epidemiology from Harvard University (2018). She received the Best Radiology Teacher Award for the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine Undergraduate Medical Education program (2012), The Ottawa Hospital's Patient Safety Star Award (2014), and the Neuroradiology Staff Teacher of the Year Award (2023).

Dr. Santos offers two decades of professional experience in neuroimaging and endovascular surgery to our community. She provides individualized and compassionate medical and professional support to those suffering from complex conditions such as acute stroke (brain clot aspiration), aneurysm, fistula, vascular malformations (catheter embolization, coiling, stenting, flow diversion, etc.); vessel stenosis (stenting, angioplasty); venous "angiomas" (sclerotherapy); vascular tumours (catheter embolization); to name a few.

Dr. Santos' clinical neurology background and proficiency in diagnostic neuroradiology ensures a comprehensive support to patients, including MRI and CT interpretation. Experience compassionate care and expert guidance under Dr. Santos' guidance, where your involvement in every aspect of your medical journey is prioritized.
